The Prince of Egypt Movie Review
The Prince of Egypt is an animated film produced my Dreamworks. It was released in 1998. The Prince of Egypt is a chilling historical story about Moses leading the Hebrews to freedom. Derived from the book of Exodus, this movie takes place in Egypt during the biblical times.
Moses, being the main character, wasn’t very serious in the beginning. He was always pulling pranks on the people who lived and worked in his kingdom. Whether it was racing with his brother Ramses, or pouring drinks on top of the pharaoh’s assistants. Although, towards the middle of the movie, Moses turns out to be quite a knowledgeable and faithful character. He trusted a God he barely knew and put all of his faith in him. Moses trusted God and went to deliver the Hebrews to freedom, knowing that he would have to face his brother and in the end, betray him. Moses was a faithful man to God.
In the beginning, Moses’s mother had to send him down the Nile River because the pharaoh was killing all of the youngest children of any Hebrew family. He floated down the river escaping from all danger and was found by pharaoh’s daughter. Moses grew up and became very important to the land of Egypt. But, God had other plans for him. Facing enormous obstacles that could have completely ruined every chance of the Hebrews escaping to freedom, Moses still had faith. All because Moses had faith in God, he prevailed. The journey of Moses leading the slaves (Hebrews) to freedom is an intense, chilling and in the end heart-warming story of the power of God and faith.
Moses was raised to praise and believe in all the Egyptian gods. Considering this, it is amazing to think that Moses had faith in God. He stopped worshiping the Egyptian gods and became a follower of Christ. Moses knew when God had talked to him through the burning bush that he (God) was real and true. Although Moses, at first, was scared and didn’t think he was right for the job, throughout almost the entire story, Moses had faith in God. He never failed to believe that God was there and in control of every hindrance that he faced. Faith is frequently a theme through the entire movie.
Abraham and Moses are very alike in one way in particular. Abraham and Moses were both very faithful to God. Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Isaac because God told him to. Moses went to deliver the Hebrews to freedom because God told him to. Despite all doubts that Moses had, he still did what God had asked him to do. They both had never-ending faith in God.
In this movie, there are many situations that you can apply to your life. For example, when Moses and Ramses mess around with each other (which all siblings do). Moses was always pulling pranks on people and Ramses was always the one being blamed. This lead to Ramses and Moses arguing with each other about who should have got in trouble. Also, Ramses was always seeking approval from his father, who was the Pharaoh of Egypt. This lead Ramses to be upset with Moses because Moses didn’t need the approval from his father as much as Ramses did. On the other hand, Ramses needed a little reassurance. Everyone who has a sibling has experienced one of these things. Whether it’s wanting more attention from your parent, or getting blamed for something that you didn’t do.
I believe that The Prince of Egypt was a wonderful story and film. The music was fitting to each scene. The animation was wonderfully done. The creators of this animated, for the most part, did a splendid job of keeping the movie to the book. If you are ever have any free time, or are searching for a family friendly movie to watch, I definitely recommend The Prince of Egypt.
